What is Measles?

How Prisma Health Urgent Care Can Help

Our urgent care centers are here to provide safe, accessible care to families during this outbreak.

To protect our patients and staff, we recommend that anyone with possible measles symptoms schedule a virtual visit first rather than walking into a clinic. This allows our providers to evaluate symptoms, guide next steps, and help prevent exposure to others.

How to Book a Virtual Appointment

Booking a Virtual Visit is quick and easy:

  • Visit the Virtual Visit page
  • Choose a convenient time
  • Connect virtually with a trusted Prisma Health Urgent Care provider

During your visit, our team can:

  • Evaluate symptoms and determine if testing or in-person care is needed
  • Provide vaccination guidance, including whether you or your child may need an MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) booster
  • Offer instructions for safe follow-up care

If an in-person visit is recommended, we’ll coordinate your arrival to minimize exposure to others. Please wear a mask during your visit if your provider advises in-person care.

How to Protect Your Family

  • Get vaccinated. The MMR vaccine is safe and highly effective. Two doses provide about 97% protection.

  • Know the symptoms. Early recognition helps prevent spread.

  • Use telemedicine first. If you suspect measles, book a virtual visit to avoid exposing others.

  • Follow public health updates. Check the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) website for the latest alerts and exposure locations.
